Making A Name For Myself

Making the change from being a low sec pirate to part of one of the largest and most powerful alliances in New Eden was a bit of a culture shock. Add to that the fact that we almost instantly ended up fighting a war on two fronts and I had a lot to come to terms with very quickly. It was a huge change and for the first couple of weeks I tried to make a point of keeping my head down, doing my job, and asking questions outside of the main fleet channels. I wanted to learn how to fit into it all without making a fool of myself, getting yelled at, and eventually being decided that I was a bit useless.

I was a bit useless at first. I charged into engagements, maybe got some tackles, but eventually died pretty much all the time. After a couple of weeks and some fantastic help from friends I now feel that I know what I am doing and how I can be most useful to the fleet. So now I am ready to enter the next phase.

Being part of a big alliance makes it pretty easy to be anonymous. You turn up to fleets, press F1 – F8, and then go home. This isn’t what I want. I want to be part of the whole thing. I want to be a specialist who the leaders will turn to when they want someone reliable and dependable. This means that now whenever the FC, or anyone else for that matter, needs a volunteer for something I try and make sure that my ‘x’ is the first one to appear in the channel. So far its been going pretty well and I think people are getting to know me and people who I have flown under before are starting to ask me to do things for them spontaneously without having to bounce up and down like the swotty kid when the class is asked a question.

I do have plans beyond just being given responsibility within the fleet. What I’d really like to do, eventually, is start to do some support FCing and get to take part in the big operations. I’ve still got lots to learn before then and I plan on flying in all the various roles that an alliance pilot can be asked to do. When things calm down a bit and we get some time away from the front lines I hope to get involved in some smaller gangs with my corporation and get a bit of practice and experience. This is definitely a long term target for me but its always good to have goals in Eve. Whatever happens, I’m done with lurking in the sidelines.

Try leading a bomber wing. a group of 10 pilots in the hands of a squad command who is good with a scanner can do amazing stuff.

I couldn't have said it better myself zama. Doing exactly what your doing is how you start your way the top, soon the FC's will always want you in their fleets. Eve is the only game I've ever played where I get back MORE then what I put into it. It truly is your game folks, play it how you want to play it, and if you aren't having fun, you are doing it wrong.

Let me tell you one of the most epic experiences of my PVP life. I was scouting through fountain, it was me in an Heretic…c4w3 in a Sleipnir, and I think Namu Kawaki in a Vaga.. I jump in..there is 15 mixed battlecruisers, hacs, and a couple battleships on the gate. I tell c4, he says "Drop the bubble.." I say "WHAT?!" He continued "Drop the bubble, burn off and cloak." I did so. c4 and Namu jumped in, killed 11 of their ships and the other 4 ran away.

This is what happens when you put crazy people together in a roam. I salute you, and keep it up m8.

I saw you last night in 2V in provi. That was a fail from our side.. it really hurt to see that go down. Our fleet was in chaos before you guys jumped into us. No target calling and two different comms. Even tho i knew we where going to die i choose to stay and fight.. we needed to make a stand somewhere. I think the fight turned out to be 86 to 5 in kills in your favor.. well it was a failtrain from the beginning… i got my pod out at least ;) As PXT said.. what a slaugter…

Good going Wensley, eager peole that can actually help out in battle are certainly required. My training to become an FC has a few months left ( till the skills actually kick in) with the ability to fly 3/4 races ships well, and only lacking the Galenete ships experience I too am looking forward to a time when I can be an FC. Best wishes to you mate and I will keep my eyes peeled here for your reports.

I missed the fight, sadly. I turned up just as the last targets were going down and tackle was trying to catch people who de-aggressed. I had to make do with fighting Gentleman's Club in D-GTMI instead.

Cheers, Mansai. Long way for me to go before I make myself a proper name in the alliance but for now I'll be taking on anything that I can. Look forward to seeing you in more fleets.
