I’ve noticed a change recently. I alluded to it in my last post but something has changed about the way I fight. Once upon a time my decisions were based on profit. Before I engaged my main concern was whether or not I would make money out of it. This made me cautious and allowed me to live of the profits of my piracy. I was in no danger of getting rich but I could afford to keep a hangar full of ships, a couple of prizes like my Dramiel, and have a bit put aside.
Recently my attitude has changed. I think its partially to do with making my PvP videos and chatting to other PvP pilots. Now I’m just looking for fun. My ship is lost the second that I undock it and all that remains is to find out quite what kind of glorious fireball it dies in. Now I fly into blobs like this one just to see what happens. In fact warping in to obvious traps and trying to kill something and get out is about the most fun in Eve. Half my best fights don’t appear on killboards because I had to bail before I could kill my target with a gang on my tail. Amamake is particularly good fun for this but I’ve also been having a great time dipping into nullsec.
So what’s the point of this post? Well, I used to get a slightly sick feeling in the pit of my stomach when I lost a ship. Especially an expensive one. Now I feel the opposite. I save up for them just so that I can take them out to die in a fire. Sure, I’m not going to end up with elite killboard stats – although flying cheap does help – but I’m going to have great fun and, in case some people hadn’t noticed it, this is a game.
So what am I saying? Buy something cheap and fast. Find a blob. Warp into it. Die. Have great fun. Do it again. You know you want to.

I really love your attitude about this. One thing I really detest is some peoples' complete reliance on their kill board…like it's the absolute metric for how much fun they're having. Reminds me of folks in traditional RPGs that only count DPS, and don't stop to consider the lore or enjoy the atmosphere. I wish folks with get over their stats and just do shit to have a good time.
Same goes for myself. I'm at a point where I don't seem to take risks because I don't want to mess up my corp's kill board. I hate that outlook though, and I shouldn't have it. And I'm sure my corp wouldn't encourage it either.

Its taken me over a year to get to this point and I've enjoyed the process of getting here. There is a lot of satisfaction to be had from being efficient but I've decided its nothing like the thrill of throwing yourself into the deep end and seeing what happens. Of course, this way of doing it can get expensive quickly.

Hell yea! This is the right attitude to have. I fly my ships to lose them, it's the best way to have fun

My attitude swings between the two you have described, usually depending on my wallet figures.

I agree. You are playing a game, the function of a game is to have fun. Actually, i think may find my latest post of interest.

What you state in your post is how I fly, now I'm pretty new to the game but still I do have a lot of fun flying into almost certain traps and seeing what you can destroy before the cavalry turns up. I'm never going to be wealthy with this approach by any means but as long as I can afford to maintain a stock of Rifters I will always fly this way. More often than not you get away with a kill for your efforts, sometimes with ship intact too. All makes for good stories to put into my blog too.
Very satisfying kill last night for example popping a Vexor while I engaged warp as a Jaguar landed next to me.

Agreed. I'm just learning and frequently getting in over my head. Also my corp is small and non-pvp so I usually fly solo atm, but it is there for the fun. If isk runs low, buy cheaper toys
I'd rather have good fights than wait for overwhelming backup so my killboard stats looked better.
