I’ve said several times how much fun I’ve had being part of The Tuskers as we’ve grown and evolved. Gone are the days when we flew frigates, interceptors, assault ships, and cruisers exclusively. These days we have recons, heavy assault ships, logistics cruisers, and even carriers. The fact that we have these more expensive toys and have started using them has attracted the attention of some of our more powerful neighbours. No longer are we the upstart little pirate corporation. Now we’re becoming a noticeable power.
With power comes responsibility. The noticeable consequence of our higher profile has been the increased number of bait and traps in Hevrice. With a couple of expensive losses lately including my Stabber Fleet Issue and Antilles’ Archon (after already having a very close escape). Its time to start thinking about reigning in our gung-ho attitude and being more careful about engaging heavier targets in Hevrice without good intel. As always when we meet one of these hurdles, and we’ve had them in the past, there will be a period of adjustment where we will take relatively heavy losses but after a while things will settle down and we’ll be back to normal.
One of the things that has changed is that we’ve decided that with 43 members and a small backlog of applications to deal with we have shut our doors to new recruits. Now that the majority of our pilots are more experienced we are less willing to take on very young recruits. This isn’t to say that there aren’t some great young guys out there, there most definitely are loads of them. We’re happy to welcome people into our fleets but for now we won’t be looking for new members.

PC and The Bastards just closed recruitment too. Where is a newbie pirate supposed to go to join a corp these days?

I don't know but I was going to try and assemble a list of
corporations accepting newbie pirates over the weekend.

@Spec: Bastards don't take newbies anyway—they have a firm 6M skillpoint minimum these days. Black Rabbit Academy might be an option for some; I think they are ramping up again.
@ Wensley: A list would be very useful. I would keep a perma-link to such a post of yours in the sidebar of my blog because I'm always getting asked about possible pirate corps for newer players.

Cough-cough… I know a corp that would accept newbie pirates, selectively and only those who match my play time and won't mind being in a tiny corp.

Have any of these established Pirate corps considered a subsidiary corp for recruitment and training? There might be, say, a 1 month probationary period for new members and if they pan out, they can go on a waiting list until the parent corp expands/has openings? The parent corp could fly with the trainees to test them out. Not sure if this would be effective at all, as I'm not very familiar with corp management in EVE. Just an idea.

He he. Fight 'em all, as long as you can afford the ships you'll learn something.

There are quite a few corps that do such things. The Black Rabbits and Blood Money Cartel spring to mind.

I was going to ask you about that, mate.
