Rookie Ship Madness

Recently the Flaming Brotherhood have announced to us that they are “taking back Hevrice”. Well, I’m sure the Gallente Federation would have something to say about that. This taking back seems to mostly consist of sitting outside our home station in battleships and docking as soon as we begin to apply any force. Sounds pretty dull to me. Each to their own, I guess.

I logged on yesterday to discover comms channels abuzz with the news that there was a Proteus in Hevrice. A gank squad was forming up and was ready for Caster’s call when he got tackled by the strategic cruiser. The pilot was ready for this and a Falcon uncloaked and jammed Caster, allowing the Proteus to escape. With Invicta support coming into the system we gave up and docked our ships up out of harm’s way. As we idled in station we noticed the Flaming Brotherhood taking up their usual positions. We undocked a ship to see if they’d engage but they refused because one of our carrier pilots was online. Despite claiming to have trashed his Thanatos they refused to believe that VaJo wouldn’t use it so we hatched a cunning plan… rookie ships.

It took a few minutes for us to assemble a fleet of Reapers and Velators with names like “VaJo’s Thanatos”, “Wensley’s Loki”, and “Joc’s Dominix”. When everyone was ready the word was given and we undocked en masse. Ollie was obviously curious to see what we were up to and his Typhoon undocked behind us. The swarm buzzed into life as points were called and guns opened fire. When fitted with damage modules and good quality guns noob ships can do a surprising amount of damage. The Typhoon’s shields dropped and we began to eat into his armour. By now he’d been joined by a Dominix and unleashed a swarm of Warrior II drones. Without even targeting us the drones went to work and tore through our fleet. We all died horribly but had a fantastic time doing it. I got my camera drones to record the fight but unfortunately didn’t get my comms systems to log the chatter. Never mind. When our pods got back to the station we undocked in heavier ships but the battleships were able to deaggress and dock before we could kill them. Disappointed I unhooked myself from my pod and went to go find some dinner.

A few hours later I hopped back into my pod and once again comms were alive. This time we’d managed to trick the Flaming Brotherhood into engaging us away from the station. As soon as they aggressed we’d escalated the fight and we were now working our way through their battleships. I leapt into my Hurricane and made it to the fight in time to help take down the final Typhoon. In the end we killed two Typhoons and a Dominix for no losses.

If we keep having good fun and getting good kills like this then long may their attempt to take control of Hevrice last!

I gotta say, this little "op" was freaking hilarious. Just as much fun was later on, when people not in the corp [passed through Hevrice and would see wrecks with those names, they would be surprised and ask what happened in our public channel. Once they figured out that all those wrecks were from noob ships, they would realize what really happen.

You gotta do these kind of things once in a while to break the usual habit. of the game. Can't wait till we run a "proper" noob ship op :)

I wasn't around for the confused visitors. That just makes it even more awesome! You're right. We do need a proper noobship op. I guess Ronan or I should pull our fingers out and make it so.

Reading that makes me think about how much I hate stupid station and docking games. I really wish they would just remove sentries from low-sec stations, make all stations insta-undocks and make aggression docking timers based on your ship size (frigs stay 60 sec, battleships become 5 min, carriers 10 min, etc). Staying docked up will keep you safe but if you want to undock or sit outside, you are actually going to have to commit yourself to some risk. Will probably never happen, but a man can dream, right?

Pretty much with you on station games. They're crap unless you do something silly like this. I do dock and undock tricks to get aggro so I can pick people off from camps but that's about it.

Yeah, I'm completely with you there station games are lame. And actually at first this was just supposed to be something to amuse us, but when we realised just how much we actually did we decided to try and kill the typhoon as it was now agressed, almost got him too he docked with structure damage
